Port Talbot 4-2 Monmouth Town: Good run of form continues

Port Talbot Town secured their third successive Division One victory with a 4-2 home win over Monmouth Town on Saturday afternoon.

Monmouth went into the fixture sitting 10th in the league, with the Blues sitting 8th after two comfortable away wins over Cwmbran Celtic and Caerau Ely that propelled them up the league rankings.

Monmouth replied with a quick break for goal from the kick off, a shot from Lewis Clare evaded the grasps of Rory McCreesh in the Port Talbot goal to make it 2-1 with just three minutes gone of the game.

A foul in the Port Talbot penalty area on the half hour mark saw the referee point to the penalty spot. McCreesh kept the Blues in front however by pulling off a fantastic save then seeing the ball out of play.

It was 3-1 for the Blues just after the half-time break, with a good cross from Jack Hurley finding the run of Luke Bowen, who headed home.

The 71st minute saw an Anthony Rawlings effort glide towards Cortez Belle, who netted to make it 4-1 for Paul Evans’ side.

Monmouth pulled one back to make it 4-2 just minutes later with a deflected cross catching McCreesh off-guard.
