Port Talbot Town suffered their first loss of the pre-season Tuesday against Welsh League side Pontyclun, going down 3 goals to 2 in what turned out to be quite a close encounter.
With a little to shout about in the first half it took a little bit of magic from Pontyclun’s Aled Davies to open up the scoring. Davies picked up the ball 35 yards out from goal, beat three Port Talbot midfielders in one move and then went on to fire the ball home from 20 yards out near the latter stages of the half to put the home side up 1-0.
There was more to come from ‘The Clun’ with two more goals coming in quick succession early in to the second half. PTT looked more settled as the half progressed though. A super strike from range off the boot of new signing Dylan Thomas asked questions of the home defence in the closing stages of the game as the Steelmen pulled one back.
Ben Wayman got himself on the score sheet as well after a scramble in the home side’s box but this was nothing more than a consolation as the game ended 3-2 not long after.
In fairness, PTT would have been value for a draw but Pontyclun held on well and came away with a pre-season win ahead of their Welsh league division campaign.
Next up for the blues are Welsh league cup winners Trefelin BGC away at Ynys Park this Friday evening (August 3rd – ko 19:00)
