In one of Port Talbot Youth’s final games of the season, the blue’s came out away from Pontardawe with zero points in what was a highly entertaining game for the neutrals in attendance at Parc Ynysderw.
With the sunshine giving neither side a break this past Sunday morning it always felt like fatigue would get the best of both sides and the goals came thick and fast in the latter stages as expected.
Ponty took the early lead around 20 minutes in to the first half. Jack Larkman didn’t take long to get on the score sheet for the young blues however. He collected the ball on edge of the area and finessed the ball towards the far post and out of the keepers grasp.
Exchanges were few and far between in the first half and it remained 1-1 going in to the break.
More open play and chances in the second half allowed the floodgates to open for the home side. Ponty added five more goals within the space of half hour which included a hat-trick from Thomas Owen and individual goals from Kobe Westmorland, Morgan Bevan and Steffan Pryce respectively.
Jeff Bailey’s boys picked up two late constellation goals with Daniel Howells finding the top corner of the net on both occasions. These were too little too late though as the referee blew for full time a little later with the scores at 6-3.
Next up for the Blue’s are two away games to end the season. They travel to Garden Village Thursday (17th May – KO 6:30pm) and finish up Sunday (20th May – KO 2:30pm) for the re-arranged game at Ton Pentre.
