Oxford Victory Before League Opener

Port Talbot Town 3-0 Oxford City

New signing Lee Kendall made his Port Talbot Town debut in this match as manager Mark Jones named a strong starting line-up to take on the Southern League opponents. Kick off was delayed by an hour due to the late arrival of the visitors but within seconds of the start of the match Port Talbot Town were ahead through an own goal by the visitors. Mark Jones dominated the opening exchanges with Drew Fahiya and Martin Rose a constant problem for the away side and after 13 minutes Rose increased the lead with a close range finish.

It was no more than Mark Jones side deserved as the visitors failed to create any real chances while Port Talbot dominated with a series of runs and crosses. On 28 minutes Rose further extended the advantage when he grabbed another close range goal to leave the match effectively over. Mark Jones made eleven substitutions at the break as he offered his squad the chance to impress and while they failed to lack the effective play of the opening half, they continued to pressure Oxford and made a number of opportunities to increase the lead.

Oxford were allowed back into the match however but Kristian Rogers was more than alert to any opportunities as the visitors were left frustrated. With little action in a poor second half Port Talbot comfortably held onto their lead to close an impressive pre-season campaign with another victory.
