- Jason Bertorelli’s single strike the difference
- Second loss for PTT in the league for 2019
- Another ‘six pointer’ for the Blues with Pontypridd next to visit Victoria Road
Supporters in attendance at Rhiw’r Ddar this Saturday were treated to some glorious weather which didn’t necessarily reflect the performance from both sides on the field. In what was a scrappy game of few chances, it was Taff’s Well that came away with all three points which will be a welcome boost in their bid for survival and entry in to next season’s reformed FAW Championship South division.
It was Port Talbot Town however that had the first major opportunity at goal and had grounds for appeal as the ball came agonisingly close to crossing the line. Keane Watts pressured the home defence on the right hand flank and rebounded a clearance in to the path of Blake Morgan who shot from distance. Morgan caught the keeper off his line but his effort struck the crossbar for the ball to bounce on to the line and away with referee Benjamin Williams ruling the ball had not crossed the line.
The Wellmen also came close with an effort of their own from distance. The ball struck James Harris’ crossbar before the danger was cleared with both sides not having much to shout about come the end of the first half.
Jandir Zola came agonisingly close to giving the Blues the lead after being the first to react to Owen Williams’ dangerous free kick on the edge of the home side’s box. Zola couldn’t keep the ball down on this occasion and saw his effort sail over the bar.
With a little over 10 minutes to play it was a former Blue in Jason Bertorelli that put the home side in front following a dangerous counter attack from Taffs Well. Bertorelli found himself one on one with Harris and made no mistake slotting home what turned out to be the only goal of the game.
Mark Pike’s side have another crucial game ahead of them this coming Saturday (6th April – 2:30KO) when Pontypridd Town visit for a game that was originally scheduled to take part on the opening weekend of the season.
