MATCH REPORT: PORT TALBOT TOWN 0-2 PENYBONT: League Champions Remain Unbeaten

In an afternoon where the supporters of Port Talbot Town had their eyes on results elsewhere across the league, Penybont ran out comfortable winners at Victoria Road to progress with their undefeated league campaign heading in to the final few fixtures of the season.

It was always going to be a busy day for James Harris between the PTT sticks but he, as did his opposition number had little to do in the opening stages of the contest as both teams struggled to adapt to the poor conditions with the wind playing havoc.

Penybont’s Cullen Kinsella had the first effort on goal of the afternoon with little else going on until the final minutes of the half where the deadlock was broken. Penybont had a corner kick on the far side of the field which was whipped in low towards former blue Kostya Georgievsky. Georgievsky snuck in low at Harris’ front post low where that was little Harris in goal could do as the ball trickled over the line and in the back of the net.

The visitors carried on as they left off with the bulk of the early chances keeping Port Talbot’s backline busy. To the Blues credit they defended well in long spells to keep the score line respectable and soon started to settle down with chances of their own with 20 minutes of the game still to play.

Connor Harris’ free kick the most dangerous of the latter stages for the home side but on this occasion the wall did their job to deflect the effort wide.

Penybont still kept the pressure on though and grabbed a second goal with Curtis Hutson firing home from close range.

Port Talbot were able to offer minutes to youth products Ronan Whaley and Bailey Embling-Jones in the dying stages of the game but in terms of a contest it was over at this point. Despite picking up no points on the day, results involving Taffs Well and Goytre AFC meant that PTT were guaranteed to finish outside of the bottom three in the league and pending a successful licensing application, will be playing in the re-formed FAW Championship South for the 2019/20 season.

With no game this weekend, PTT next travel to Goytre United for the final away game of the season on Wednesday 8th May (7:30 PM KO). Keep an eye out on the official club twitter for live match updates on the day!
