Port Talbot Town’s 2017/2018 Welsh Football League campaign has yet to see them awarded a point, with the Blues’ first local derby of the season ending in a 2-1 win for Lee John’s Goytre United despite a second-half push from the Steelmen.
Goytre went into the fixture looking to take the momentum gained from their 6-1 opening day win over Afan Lido into their second local clash of the campaign.
The home side dominated the opening half an hour, with a number of efforts on goal provoking good saves from Blues keeper James Harris.
Luke Bowen came close to breaking the deadlock when his shot on the Goytre goal struck the crossbar before bouncing out of play.
Goytre United entered the half-time break with a 1-0 lead when a strike from Dale Griffiths evaded the grasps of Harris.
A goal from Curtis Hudson saw the hosts double their lead after the break.
The second-half saw a rejuvinated Port Talbot side enjoy a good chunk of possession. It paid off when a 70th minute effort from Aaron Bidderscombe hit the back of the Goytre net.
The remainder of the fixture saw the Blues really push for an equaliser. A free-kick outside the Goytre area saw the Blues hit the post with almost the last kick fo the game.
Port Talbot Town are back in Division One action on Saturday afternoon when the Port Talbot derby returns to Victoria Road. Kick off against Afan Lido will be 2.30pm!
