Port Talbot Town’s first win of their 2017/2018 Welsh League Division One campaign came in the form of a staggering 8-1 away win at Cardiff-based side Caerau Ely.
The home side went into the fixture fresh off the back of a 2-2 draw against Taff’s Well, the only result they’ve managed so far this season that wasn’t a defeat.
Paul Evans’ Blues went into this one in a similar boat, having picked up just one draw and no wins so far this season, with their first point coming from their 1-1 draw against rivals Afan Lido.
Port Talbot Town hit the scoresheet just minutes into the game at Caerau Ely’s Cwrt-yr-Ala ground, with the home side going down to ten-men minutes later for unsporting conduct.
The floodgates opened afterwards, resulting in goals from Luke Bowen, Anthony Rawlings, Craig Jones and Rhys Owen making the scoreline 4-0 with half an hour gone.
Another goal from Luke Bowen before half-time saw the Blues enter the break with a whopping 5-0 lead.
Bowen earned his hat-trick just seconds after the start of the second-half, with a powerful shot from the forward leaving the home keeper helpless.
Another goal from Anthony Rawlings made it 7-0. Caerau Ely pulled one back minutes later, with an effort evading the grasps of keeper Rory McCreesh.
Jack Hurley restored the balance however, netting a late goal to make it 8-1 for Evans’ Blues.
The Blues are back in action on Saturday, September 16th when they travel to a Cwmbran Celtic side that succumbed to a 5-0 defeat to Afan Lido this weekend. Kick off for that one is 2.30pm!
