Port Talbot Town 6-1 Connah’s Quay – Genquip Stadium
Kick off: 2.30pm – Date: Saturday, November 3 2012 – Attendance: 144
Port Talbot Town welcome GAP Connah’s Quay to the Genquip Stadium on Sunday afternoon, and looking through the history books – this fixture took a very unexpected turn almost three years ago with the Blues adding a whopping six goals past their visitors.
Taking place on a breezy November afternoon, Connah’s Quay made the trip down south to the Genquip Stadium in search for three points to give their season a much needed boost.
The affair started in quiet an even fashion, with both sides enjoying equal shares of possession – with the strong wind getting the better of a number of chances for both units.
Port Talbot took the lead on 27 minutes when a pass into the area from James Bloom fed the run of Jeff White, who slotted a cool low ball into the net from an awkward angle.
White doubled his lead just minutes later after latching onto a pass from the Blues midfield before turning quickly just outside the box and firing an effort on-target for a second of the afternoon.
Connah’s Quay snatched one back just before the break when a Rhys Healey run saw him cut in past the Blues defence before slotting one past David Burnett in the Port Talbot goal.
A Cortez Belle effort after the half-time break regained the home side’s lead with a penalty kick following a handball in the visiting penalty area.
Not long following the Blues’ third, a David Blain header from close range made it 4-1 just before the hour mark.
Substitute Adam Wright secured the win for the Blues on 83 minutes when a Connah’s Quay attack was halted by the Blues defence before dispatching to Daniel Thomas on the counterattack, the midfielder took a gallop up the wing before cutting into the visitor’s penalty area and passing to Wright to slotted home.
Wright sealed himself a second in the dying embers of the clash when a horrendous header from visting defender Craig Jones saw his effort hit the post of his own goal, with Wright tucking in a tap-in on the rebound.
