The end of the season is fast approaching, Barry are one win away from promotion to the Welsh Premier League. They are currently 5 points clear of second placed Goytre, and they need a top-two finish in order to secure promotion.
Barry are 6 points clear of third placed Haverfordwest, who are unable to achieve promotion even if they do finish top two after they were refused an FAW Domestic License. Goytre did not apply for the license and are not eligible as a result, fourth placed Pen-y-bont pulled out during the Domestic License process.
If Barry do not win against Goytre United this evening and drop enough points not to finish top two, then three teams will be relegated from Division One at the end of the season, meaning the Blues, Monmouth and Ton Pentre are all at risk.
Should Barry win tonight however, they get promoted to the top-flight and only two teams get relegated from Division One – this is because no southern team will be relegated from the Welsh Premier League, Airbus and Rhyl have already been relegated.
Aberystwyth looked like they could be relegated at one point, if they were to have been relegated they would most likely have been given a choice to either go to Welsh League Division One in the south or the Cymru Alliance in the north – if they had chosen Division One then three teams would go down despite Barry’s promotion.
So in essence, if Barry win tonight the Blues stay up regardless of how they fare in their upcoming games.
