A young Port Talbot Town squad succumbed to a 5-1 League Cup defeat at the hands of Division Two Ammanford on Wednesday evening.
Predominantly made up of youth players, the Blues were unable to compete with the dominance and experience displayed by Ammanford, who now progress through to the third round of the competition.
A positive result for Paul Evans’ men looked possible in the first-half but a failure to capitalise on opportunities saw the hosts take advantage just before the break when an effort from Craig Frater managed to blaze past McCreesh and into the Port Talbot net.
The hosts ran riot in the second-half, with Gavin Jones hitting the net as well as Frater racking up two more goals to secure his hat-trick. A Nicholas Arnold own-goal made it 4-1 with ten minutes left to run.
Gavin Jones hit the net in the 90th minute to secure his second of the game and a place for his side in the next round of the Welsh Football League Cup.
The Blues are back in Division One action on Saturday afternoon when a strong squad is expected to start against local rivals Afan Lido. Kick off 2.30pm at Victoria Road.
